Testimonials From Lymphoedema Patients![]() ![]()
My experience with Gayle has been very positive. She is a delightful person, very kind and sympathetic - just what I needed after the operation. I was very sceptical and indeed negative about going to see her three days after my operation, but in retrospect, it was good for me both physically and psychologically. For the first 2 or 3 sessions I could tell that she was stimulating the flow of 'something' as I continuously needed to pass urine afterwards. Following the 'bringing out' of the bruising, I was amazed at the rapid progress of its fading. After just 7 treatments in 2 weeks my swelling and scaring had virtually gone. The treatment is gentle and relaxing. I am convinced that MLD helped my speedy recovery from the very severe bruising and swelling I experienced as a result of the operation. H., Guildford ![]() ![]() 10 days later - keloid scar When rushing to go out, I hit myself in the face with the corner of the car door giving myself a 4cm cut across my right cheekbone that needed 7 stitches. Unfortunately, I have hypermobility syndrome, a genetic condition causing stretchy collagen that, among other things, gives me an increased tendency to raised keloid scarring. I'm not particularly vain but the prospect of a big scar in the middle of my face was enormously upsetting. Luckily, I knew someone who had been treated by Gayle for Lymphoedema and was told that she could also minimise scarring and encourage healing through Manual Lymphatic Drainage or MLD. Gayle performed MLD on my face and neck, focusing on the scar, and using Kinsio tape over the scar to continue massaging it between appointments. I noticed a difference after the first treatment. At one point the scar did show signs of starting to bubble up, causing me to panic, but Gayle was confident that it would flatten down again, which it did. I'm now certain that without the MLD I would have ended up with an unsightly raised scar. But after the course of treatments over 10 days it has healed remarkably well and I'm left with just a flat pink line that is already starting to fade back to normal skin colour. Theresa
I was diagnosed with breast cancer aged 35 yrs old. Several years later I was later diagnosed with Lymphoedema in my right arm. The after effects of the double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery proved to be minimal compared with the physical and psychological effects of the Lymphoedema. The condition has restricted my physical activities; it is painful; unsightly; limits choice of clothing and is difficult to come to terms with. For the past 5 years I have been receiving Manual Lymphatic Drainage treatment from Gayle, which has been invaluable. Although there is no cure for my condition, Gayle's treatment has enabled me to continue with some physical activity. It has given me confidence that any immediate swelling can be managed and that the condition is not hopelessly untreatable. With regular treatment, we have kept the condition manageable to the extent that it can go unnoticed by other people. I feel comfortable wearing clothes on social occasions that reveal my arms without the use of support hosiery. Psychologically, this is priceless and life changing. Angela Some 18 months after removal of the lymph glands, I was diagnosed with Lymphoedema. The NHS regional Lymphoedema clinic was helpful in some ways but does not carryout Manual Lymphatic Drainage. After making enquiries, I was put in touch with Gayle Olivia Longhurst who is a Vodder qualified MLD therapist. Treatment with Gayle has been very successful in containing and controlling my lymph-swollen limb. I have been very pleased both with the results and also with the very friendly and homely atmosphere Gayle offers. I do positively recommend her. Mrs C |
